CBD Brand Packaging Design Evolution

Pura Vida Health recently had its line of cannabis-infused super foods redesigned to better reflect its mission to serve the modern, health-conscious consumer. It is packed with a colorful fin-sealed flat pouch.

Some of the protein bars available from the brand include protein bars with THC, CBD, as well as an option with equal parts of both. Each vegan and gluten-free bar is packed with 12 grams of plant-based protein, and boasts a healthy take on popular dessert flavors like Peanut Butter Crunch or Chocolate Chip. Alongside protein bars, Pura Vida Health's cannabis-infused superfood collection also includes granola, trail mix and seed mixes.

The NUG Cannabis-Infused Matcha Chocolate Bar has been unveiled by the California-based cannabis firm as a premium product for consumers who are looking for a balanced way to incorporate both CBD and THC into their lifestyle.

CBD has an image problem, one that is an important design consideration in a world where the nation is still deciding on the fate of the entire industry. Design can help, but to do so, brand visuals, packaging, and products must focus on more than aspiring to look like the Apple or Glossier of the cannabis industry.

Yes, these brands have defined themselves with great design, but they also respond to people’s needs in everything, from their products to their operations and even their packaging. Each part matters. You can have exceptional packaging or product design and lose every customer with poor customer service. I have even seen beautiful design concepts that look terrible in real life because brands and designers did not source the materials or pay attention to the quality of the packaging.

Design should serve a need, and CBD’s current need is to open access; to beat the stigma, embrace inclusivity, and get the life-improving product into the hands of as many people as possible. CBD doesn’t need to feel exclusive or unattainable; it needs to be available to all.

CBD, of course, is not like a weed or cannabis brand. From the way the plant is grown and treated to the consumers, there is a vast difference in the two markets. One is still heavily regulated and only available in some states, whereas CBD is available nationwide and has a much wider audience of people willing to try it. So, branding for a cult-like following in weed brands versus appealing to everyone is something designers have to consider when creating for a CBD brand.

This means you should design for approachability. Find a balance between the past origins of the cannabis industry and where CBD is heading. Most cannabis brands have a loyal following because of a focus on growers who have paved the way or disrupted it.

As we can see from this two brands, the packaging is so attractive, can cause harmful problems if children eat them. Items which are not intended for children such as cannabis infused cookies, candies and gummies may cause unexpected impact on children.
Apply with a BPS Child Resistant Pouch will keep children SAFE from dangerous products.
