How much carbon footprint can be reduced if you go with a Recyclable Pouch?
BPS unearths how eco-friendly the recyclable pouch can achieve:
“The carbon footprint of 1 package can be considered as the total amount of carbon dioxide produced by using one package.
- Conventional laminated pouches, made from multi-layer films of different types such as PE, metalized PE, aluminum, etc., require more energy in production of raw materials and finished pouches, and more carbon emissions are produced from raw materials to finished pouches. Besides, with different types of films formed together, these laminated pouches cannot be recycled after use. Disposing of these wasted bags requires more energy and produces more carbon emissions.
- Recyclable bags, made of mono type of plastic PE, consumes less energy in the production of the raw materials as well as finished pouches, so less carbon footprint is generated in these processes. After use, these pouches can be recycled and reused, so the recyclability reduces the energy and carbon footprint needed to deal with the waste.
It's complex to calculate the carbon footprint of a package. As a general reference, by changing to the recyclable materials, the carbon footprint of a package can be reduced around 60%.”
How can you recycle the Recyclable Pouch?
According to BPS’s industry knowledge,
Plastic recycling stream generally involves collection, sorting, and recycling. Most recycling centers are equipped for PET, PP, PE, etc. The recyclable pouch is made of mono PE. Therefore, as long as the PE recycling stream exists in the country, the bags can be properly recycled.
Generally, if consumers discard recyclables into recycling bins, the wastes will be collected to recycling centers for sorting and recycling. Recycling system should be available in most countries, but varies in degree.
According to the common status quo, the recycling system worldwide may not be perfect yet, but it should be improved soon, as more and more countries (including EU, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc.) are setting a timetable for eco-friendly packaging requirements and policies. By switching to fully recyclable packages, you are following and leading the trend nationally and internationally.
