March News: Bars Packaging Trends

Taza Chocolate's Dairy-Free Chocolate Bars Spotlight a Milk Alternative

When it comes to enjoying chocolate without dairy, people are typically limited to dark chocolate but a range of innovative dairy-free chocolate bars are helping to change this. A variety of vegan-friendly "milk chocolate" products are being launched with creamy formulas thanks to the inclusion of plant-based milk alternatives. In Taza Chocolate's case, there are three dairy-free chocolate bars that are made with almond milk.
The Classic, Quinoa Crunch and Crunchy Cashew chocolate bars are organic, vegan and paleo, and free from cane sugar, offering a satisfying way for people to enjoy the smooth texture of milk chocolate without any of the dairy or the bitterness of dark chocolate on its own.
Unlike most chocolate bars, these ones are packaged in a resealable flat pouch.

KitKat's Plastic-Free Packaging Turns Into a Sea Creature Paper Craft

Chocolate bar wrappers are usually trash after they've been separated from the treats they protect but KitKat created plastic-free packaging that doubles as a fun activity. The waste-reducing paper pouch are artfully decorated with marine creatures, which match a newly released Ocean Salt KitKat flavor—the premium treat boasts a white chocolate base that's combined with sea salt sourced from the Seto Inland Sea.

In all, there are four different packaging designs for consumers to collect and turn into origami sea animals—either a sea turtle, a seal, a dolphin or a manta ray. To further support waste-reducing initiatives, Nestlé Japan is donating a portion of each unit sold to Zero Waste Japan.
